A Year in Review...

Looking back on this last year, I cannot express to you how much warmth fills in my heart. It always amazes me to see how much our team can grow and accomplish in a small 365 days. I would like to take this time to highlight our year.

The year started off great, the excitement of Steamworks was boiling in our minds. Build Season was filled with not so much blood, lots of sweat, and hopefully tears of happiness. Trial and error on the robot, lots of editing on award submissions, and lots and lots of hard work. Six weeks later and it was finally time for competition! Dallas was really fun, although we didn't make it to finals. We had so much fun cheering on our fellow teams. Oklahoma City was a blast. We won the Entrepreneurship Award! Later on in the semester, we elected our new officers- John (president), Lily (vice president) and Ben (chief engineer). Together, they have been working diligently to help the team. Over the summer and early fall we participated in a wide variety of events: Jenks HS Enrollment, The Cox Back to School Event, the Tulsa Maker Faire, the Jenks Club Fair and Hometown Huddle. In September, we hosted our third annual Smash Bash gaming tournament. We displayed our robot and had activities for kids at two days of the Tulsa State Fair. Our team hosted a water station at the Tulsa Run in October. We also volunteered at three FLL Events (TU Qualifier, Booker T Qualifier, and FLL State) despite not being able to host our own qualifier this year. Even moreso, we hosted the Flight Night Drone Competition for the second time. This year's theme was "A Race Through Space" and students from age 6 to 17, from 3 different states participated in the event! What a blast! The team was also able to have a demo booth at the TU STEM Fair this year, making our booth bigger and better than last year! We've conducted a donation drive for the Tulsa Boys Home and made holiday cards for the children's hospital. We surely have been busy! Of course, we reached some hard points throughout the year, but we made it through. Overall, the Prime Movers volunteered over 2000 hours between August and December of 2017. That is absolutely amazing!

Highlights of the year:
  • Over 2000 volunteer hours in the first semester
  • Grew the team to 41 members
  • Four new mentors joined our family
  • Had more hands on "classes"
  • Received the $5000 Best Buy Community Grant
  • Continued the IHOP Social tradition
  • Mentored 4 FLL teams

The Prime Movers would like to thank all of our sponsors, mentors, teachers, students, and parents for everything they do to assist our team. Without you, we would not be where we are today.

Happy New Year!
